5 Reasons to Stay at Great Wolf Lodge Colorado Springs

The Great Wolf Lodge has finally opened it’s doors to it’s newest location in Colorado Springs. We were invited down to stay for a weekend with select bloggers and local media and had the BEST time. We’ve stayed at other locations throughout the US and have to say we are now quite partial to the one just over an hour from Denver.  We stayed, played, splashed, climbed, cast spells, balanced high above the crowd and ate until we had to be rolled out. Here are our top five reasons to stay at the Great Wolf Lodge, Colorado Springs.

Stay

First off, every room is a suite! These suites are perfect for families and can sleep 4-9 guests depending on the size and style of the room. With plenty of room in even the most basic of suites, your family will be comfortable while you sleep and rest up from all the fun. Our favorite is the Kid Cabin. It sleeps up to 7 guests and has a queen size bed, full sofa sleeper and a kid-themed cabin complete with a set of bunk beds and a twin bed. To view all of the suites, visit www.greatwolf.com/colorado-springs

Pro tip: Ask for a room on floors 6-10 if possible. The MagiQuest game can be played on floors 3-5 and while everything goes into hibernation promptly at 10pm, if you have little ones who need to nap during the day, these floors can be a bit noisier. Also to note, there are elevators, but the most common complaint is how slow they are during check-in/check-out so find the stairs and get some extra steps on that fitbit!

Play

People come far and wide for the water park, which we will get to in a sec, but there is FAR more than just water play at Great Wolf Lodge, Colorado Springs. They have:

  • MagiQuest – an interactive game played all throughout the hotel, but mostly on floors 3-5. Make sure you go to the MagiQuest gift shop and watch the HUGE dragon come to life and even breathe smoke!
  • Ten Pay Alley – a half sized bowling alley perfect for little ones. The adults may think it’s easier with no gutter balls, but trust me, it’s still a challenge!
  • Norther Lights Arcade – I’m the QUEEN of the claw machines and this trip was no different. We won Pokemon toys, a narwhal with a mustache, Paw Patrol toys and more. The boys loved the video games but I was all over those toy grabs! (Pro Tip: The arcade is open 24/7 so the adults can sneak down for an intense game of skee-ball while the little ones sleep!)
  • Howlers Peak Ropes Course – Not for the faint of heart. I thought I was being so brave taking my tween up there who is afraid of heights. Um, yeah, so he did an amazing job but there were some areas that made ME nervous. We had friends with us with teens who loved this part of the resort and were practically olympic ready by the end of the weekend! (Note: you are in harnesses and it’s 100% safe and 110% fun!)
  • Rustic Ridge Climbing Wall – a 21 foot tall climbing wall. I made it about half way up the “easy” course. My 12 year old zoomed right past me. Hey, at least I tried! They have a few different degrees of difficulty so it’s perfect for kids 5 all the way up to adults!
  • Oliver’s Mining Co – pan for gold and gems in the middle of the Great Wolf Adventure Park! You get to keep what you find!
  • Howl in One Mini Golf – This is one attraction we didn’t end up getting to as the kids were SO busy with everything else going on. It’s a small 9 hole indoor mini golf course. Looked fun and perfect for even the youngest of guests.
  • There are also Yoga Tails in the morning and Story Time in the evening for guests of all ages in the Grand Lobby

Splash

Okay, so everyone thinks of the water park when they think of Great Wolf Lodge, right? This one does not disappoint! Our favorite area was Slap Tail Pond, a wave pool with gigantic waves rolling through every five minutes. Fort Mackenzie was another favorite. This multi-level tree house water fort dumps, sprays, and splashes water, has slides and even a signature tipping bucket dumping hundreds of gallons of water every 4 minutes. Other fun areas include:

  • Totem Towers – Three two story slides that attach to Fort Mackenzie
  • Howlin’ Tornado – a SIX story funnel slide
  • Mountain Edge Raceway – This one is FUN! A four story water slide with body surfing mats that allow riders to race each other! This slide proved to be fun for ALL ages (and can get a bit competitive!)
  • Wolf Tail – I wasn’t brave enough but fellow blogger Greeblehaus‘ son was and he was having the time of his life! This  thrill ride is 360 degrees and starts with a straight vertical drop through a trapdoor. Um. Nope. Definitely was too much of a scaredy cat with this one!

They have so many more amazing water play features including a mini ropes course, climbing wall, basketball and more!

Pro Tip: My youngest is autistic and sounds bother him and I should note that the sound of the water from the slides and attractions is quite loud for kids who might not be used to it. To make it easier for my son, we brought a couple pairs of Peltor Jr noise cancelling earmuffs/headphones. One pair to keep dry and one pair just for the water park. They were easy to take apart after we were done to air/dry out and they blocked out the extra noise in the water park so he could play!

Grub

ZOMG THE FOOD. Now let’s get to talking about what I know. FOOD. They have SO many options inside the resort that you don’t have venture out!

  • Barnwood – My FAVORITE place in all of Great Wolf Lodge. Not only do they have an amazing (and fully stocked) bar, but the farm-to-table menu items from local farms were to-die-for. The lamb chops? DIVINE. The craft brews and hand crafted cocktails were a big hit with the adult crowd but it was still open and kid friendly. (Pro Tip: If it’s busy you can put your name in on the list and they will text when a table is ready. This way little ones can still play if there is a bit of a wait.)
  • Ben & Jerry’s – Yes. THAT Ben & Jerry’s. Colorado Spring’s first (and so far only) B&J location is inside the Great Wolf Lodge and we made perfect taste testers as we made sure to stop by each day of our stay.
  • Dunkin Donuts – Yes. THAT Dunki… okay, you get the idea. They open EARLY so you can sneak down and grab some delicious donuts for your crew before the other dining locations open.
  • Hungry as a Wolf – fresh made yummy pizzas, pasta and salads. Great to grab and go!
  • The Loose Moose Family Kitchen – Open for breakfast and dinner, this buffet style dining option is great for picky eaters.
  • The Outpost at Great Wolf Lodge – located inside of the adventure park, a great place for drinks and snacks with craft beer and signature drinks for adults. Makes watching them climb the wall over and over and over and over and over again a little more fun. 😉
  • The Watering Hole – located inside the water park, it offers snacks, soft drinks and more.

Shop

As if ALLLLLLL of that wasn’t enough, there’s more.

  • Buckhorn Exchange Gift Shop – a HUGE shop with fun souvenirs, local finds and even some great home dec items!
  • Bear Essentials Swim Shop has everything you might need or might have forgotten. We picked up a fun towel as a souvenir as well as some swim goggles!
  • Great Wolf Candy Company – sweet and treats exclusive to Great Wolf Lodge and the first of it’s kind in the large hotel/resort chain!
  • Scooops Kid Spa – This one I wish I could have tested out, but with three boys they weren’t keen on pedicures with mom. Oh well, we will just have to go back and I’ll go by myself! I assume the adorable tiaras they give to the little guests will fit me too.

We had the absolute best time being hosted by Great Wolf Lodge Colorado Springs and cannot wait to go back and book another staycation.  For more information on all of the great amenities, visit greatwolf.com/colorado-springs

disclosure: We were asked to stay as part of the Grand Opening media preview event. All thoughts and opinions are mine and honest. We received a comped stay and extra benefits but I paid every penny for that narwhal I won in the arcade and it’s my most prized possession ever. #nolie
