PALS Chess Camps
Jul 7 – Aug 1 all-day

IM000581.JPG

Our summer chess camps include five days of chess learning, playing, and tons of FUN!

For many children, this experience is one of the highlights of their summer.

Camp Description Time is divided equally between learning and playing, and students are divided into groups (after a preliminary assessment) based on skill level.  We will have one 20-minute recess in the morning and another in the afternoon.  Water and healthy snacks will be provided during each recess.  Lunch is from 12:00-1:00pm each day; full-day students must bring their own lunch.  Half-day students are welcome to stay for lunch as well.

  • Students learn tactics and strategies in all phases of chess (opening, middlegame, endgame)
  • Group challenges and presentations reinforce students’ teamwork and leadership skills
  • Special activities like bughouse (team chess), battleship chess, piece mazes, chess stories and riddles, creative problem-composing and problem-solving, and more!
  • Students learn about chess history through analysis of famous games and historical anecdotes
  •  On the last day of chess camp (Friday) at 3:30pm we will have group presentations for parents and an awards ceremony with prizes for all!  Each camper will receive their own tournament chess set, a PALS Chess Academy t-shirt and a personalized certificate.

Colorado Renaissance Festival
Jul 26 @ 10:00 am – 6:30 pm

Good King Henry invites you to the 2014 Colorado Renaissance Festival.

For our 38th season, we take you on a magical tour through time and legend. As you wander down the village streets and pathways of the Colorado Renaissance Festival, ready thyself to revel with master revelers, watch artisans create original works of their ancient craft and be taken in by the tantalizing aromas of roast turkey legges, steak on a stake, fresh baked goods and much more.

Featuring a cast of hundreds of authentically costumed merrymakers living and working throughout the village and performing, continuously, upon the Festival’s seven stages, the illusion of a rollicking 16th Century festival day is created. Impromptu encounters with the royalty and peasantry of Tudor England are commonplace.

You’ll meet all kinds, from jousters to jugglers to minstrels to maidens faire, all schooled in the art of interactive theater! Much new entertainment has been summoned by Good King Henry for this glorious season. For eight special summer weekends enjoy family fun for children and magical times for adults.
