People always tell me I’m good at getting my kids out of the house and taking them places. And I’m guessing they don’t realize when they say this that, really, it’s a supreme form of laziness on my part. When the kids are home, they mess with my stuff. They spill things and fight over…

A Retro Holiday at the 1940s White Christmas Ball
Last weekend I stepped back in time to celebrate Christmas 1940s style. We got all dolled up and headed to the 1940s White Christmas Ball, where we kicked off the holiday with singing and tap dancing troupe The Satin Dollz, and appearances by Elvis, Judy Garland, and Frank Sinatra. And because White Christmas is one…
Delicious Festive Cranberry Moscow Mules
Heeey — so how’s everybody doing? Emerging from your turkey coma okay? Ready to head into Christmas? We’re headed to the mountains tomorrow to cut down a tree, which is huge fun. But I don’t know if you’ve noticed, our Colorado trees are…unique. Sparse. They’re sparse. And the kids and I always go overboard trying…
We’re in a new phase of life, my husband and I. We have a teenager. Along with all the other things that entails, though, is this huge development. We can leave the house together. Like, without planning and budgeting for a sitter. And without scaring off our relatives who visit by roping them into babysitting for a…

Dinner time, the most hated time of day for me. I never seem to know what to make. I need something that will appeal to five different people. The Picky Eater (my 7 yr old), The Pseudo-Vegetarian (my 12 yr old), The Allergic-to-Everything (my 3 yr old) and then my husband and I. I’ve tried the meal prep places like Dream Dinners and they were great for a while, but the hubby thought they were too bland and I couldn’t find time to go down to the store for 3 hours to prep. I also tried recipe apps for my phone and that was okay, but not enough variety. What was I to do?
Nowadays I surf Pinterest for great food ideas and also FoodNetwork.com. Over time I’ve found blogs that have great ideas and suggestions and I often poll our forums “What’s for Dinner?” Click through to find 5 tips/tricks I’ve found to help alleviate the stress of meal planning.
So you might remember me saying before about how I am trying this whole Elf on the Shelf thing. (Elf on the Shelf and other crap I do to make…

There are five lessons every kid should learn in life. Unfortunately, many kids either don’t learn them until later in life, or at all. 1. Nothing in life is free.…
