I love having fresh flowers everywhere in the spring and summer but I have a horrible green thumb (more like a black thumb) and can never seem to remember to water them as often as they need to. I’ve seen Aqua Globes at Walgreens and WalMart, but I thought, it’s just a glass bottle type of thing surely I can think of something better… Then it hit me. Wine bottles.
Lord knows I have enough of them. I mean, I have three boys and a hectic weekly schedule with all of their activities and school, as well as my own, so trust me when I say I can water the neighborhood with them.
I tried a few different ways to get the wine bottles to work to water my plants. I tried just straight in the soil, and that did okay at first, but the water was being drained too quickly. Then I found these terra-cotta bottle stakes. Perfect! I only go out and refill the bottle once or twice a week now.
Here’s what to do:
- Buy a pretty bottle of wine.
- Drink it, either with friends or while watching a chick flick or because, Tuesday.
- Rinse out the bottle with warm water.
- Fill with cool water.
- Place in the stake.
- Dig a small hole where you want it to go.
- Put in dirt.
Enjoy the conversations your neighbors start with you when they come over! I’ve had so many friends and family comment on how cute it was and how they were going to try it too! If you try it, come back and leave a comment on how it worked for you and share what bottle of wine you used! I’m always looking for new ones to try!
