Every year before Christmas, my hubby and I take a night out to reconnect before the chaos, and we use it as a “meeting” to lay out our holiday budget, what are we getting for whom, where are we going on which day…basically all the little details that get lost in the shuffle! It’s a nice chance to have some one on one time and make sure we’re on the same page before the holidays begin.
This year, we hit one of our favorite spots: Bonefish Grill. We’re both big seafood lovers, so we LOVE Bonefish’s wood-grilled fish and shellfish, but they have great steaks and non-fish dishes too! They’ve just rolled out their Winter “Colossal” menu, and we were excited to try it. I’d heard the radio commercials (in Neil Patrick Harris’s unmistakable voice) about the giant crab legs, and my mouth was watering for them!
We arrived at Bonefish on busy Black Friday, but we were seated quickly (the service is always outstanding at our neighborhood location). The server was very knowledgeable and thoroughly explained all the new choices on the seasonal menu, making mention of his favorites. It all looked so scrumptious, it was hard to decide. So, we sipped our drinks while we looked over the menu and finally settled on those Crab Legs for me, and Lobster Thermidor Stuffed Mahi Mahi for my husband. Our server expertly recommended the perfect white wine for my tastes to accompany the crab, and reminded us to save room for the Chocolate Creme Brulee.
Everything was delicious. The crab was even served “lazy man” style, pre-cracked so all had to do was dip the sweet meat in butter and enjoy it. The Mahi was soo rich and decadent with the lobster stuffing–too bad hubby would only share a tiny bite! The veggie side dishes were perfectly matched as well–spaghetti squash with the Mahi and steamed asparagus with the crab. Fresh, colorful, and cooked just right. My only *very minor* complaint was that I wished the crab came with clarified butter, instead of just melted butter. I’m probably one of the few people who would even notice a difference, but it would have just put an already perfectly delicious dinner over the top!
After a bit of debate we decided to go ahead with the dessert-I mean, go big or go home, right? And I was glad we did. I am a sucker for creme brulee, but Chocolate? Even better! The crispy, burnt-sugar topping crackled nicely to reveal a luscious, not-too-sweet chocolate creme.
Bonefish is a great place to bring the family for a holiday get-together, with their casual atmosphere, delicious food to please even the non-fish lovers, creative cocktails, and great service.
