It’s almost October, can you believe it? It seems like school just started a few days ago, right? But the chill in the air tells me that fall is here, and that means Halloween isn’t far behind.
Colorado is home to dozens of farms that offer pumpkin picking, corn mazes, and more at their fall festivals. But there is one that stands out to me because of the work that they do during the rest of the year.
Harvest Farm in Wellington, Colorado, is a 209-acre working farm that raises hormone- and antibiotic-free beef, and fresh farm produce throught their CSA (community supported agriculture). But they are so much more than that. Harvest Farm is also a rehabilitation center for men–under the umbrella of Denver Rescue Mission–where participants can learn to break the cycle of addiction and homelessness. Through the New Life program, the men learn employable skills and gain the self-esteem, spiritual grounding, and stability needed to navigate life. From earning their GEDs to managing their finances, the men graduate the program with everything they need to be self-sufficient and sober.
Addiction recovery is something very close to my heart, so I love the fact that I can take my family to an awesome, fun-filled festival while supporting an organization I believe in.
Speaking of fun-filled, what can you expect to find at Harvest Farm? Activities for the whole family, and it’s all included with your ticket:
- Corn Maze
- Hay Wagon Ride Tour
- Pig Races
- Goat City
- Petting Zoo
- Campfire In the evening
