My youngest son is autistic so finding a children’s show that will keep his attention for longer than 5 minutes, as well as be one I don’t mind watching with him 30 times in a row was tough. Now we’ve found the perfect show for both of us in Julie’s Greenroom.
This adorable show not only showcases one of my most beloved actresses, Dame Julie Andrews herself, but also has adorable and diverse characters created by the Jim Henson Company. While my son isn’t disabled in the sense he’s in a wheelchair, he still identifies mostly with the character on the show who is. Hank is a talented piano player who is also a baseball fan and in a wheelchair. The other characters are Spike, Riley, Hank, Fizz, and Peri (the muppets) and Gus and Julie (the humans). They teach children about the stage, productions, musicals and so much more!
It’s an absolutely adorable show and the entire first season is available on Netflix. 13 star-filled episodes with guest appearances by:
- Alec Baldwin
- Idina Menzel
- Ellie Kemper
- Titus Burgess
- Josh Groban
- Chris Colfer
- Carol Burnett
- Sara Bareilles
just to name a few!
This is definitely a show that comes on and I will sit an watch, even after the kids have left the room! Such a bright and fun and positive show, and bonus… it showcases the importance of the arts!
