SodaStream – My New Best Friend in the Kitchen

The people at SodaStream very generously sent me their product for review. In the package was the SodaStream in Jet and 9 soda flavors and some water flavors as well! My kids love soda, I know, bad mom, but it’s not like they drink a 50g sugar and caffeine filled soda every day. Now I don’t have to worry about them drinking soda, the soda stream is tons better for them than a lot big name brand drinks.

How does SodaStream nutrition stack up against national brands?
With a SodaStream home soda maker and over 30 delicious regular, diet and caffeine-free sodamix flavors to choose from, you’ll enjoy freshly made, great tasting soda that fits your health and diet. Regular flavors contain no high-fructose corn syrup, and diet flavors are sweetened with Splenda® brand sweetener, not aspartame.

The soda made from the SodaStream has no High Fructose Corn Syrup and a ton less sugar, or none at all! That made this mom happy for sure!

SodaStream Fizz
SodaStream making fizz!So how do you make soda with this contraption?? Easy! We filled up one of the liter bottles that came in the set with cold, filtered water. Next, we attached the bottle and pumped in the fizz. The button was hard for my 6 yr old to press all the way, but he eventually got the hang of it. After the fizz was in, we put in one capful of the syrup. Tbone chose Root Beer and Cartman chose Diet Cranberry/Raspberry (my FAVE!!!). We gently mixed the flavors, then viola! Done. That simple. The kids decided their favorite flavors were the Diet Lemon/Lime, Root Beer and the Regular Cola. My favorite was the Diet Cranberry/Raspberry by far! Tonight we are making Orange/Mango soda to go with our BBQ dinner.

The SodaStream can save you money! No joke! I was cruising their website and found out that if you make your own soda with their product, it’s like paying only $0.25 per can! Only $0.25 per LITER of sparkling water too! Plus you don’t have all the aluminum, cardboard and plastic waste from buying soda and bottled sparkling waters. It’s better for the environment! Here is the nitty gritty…

Buy it Now:

  • Great Value. The SodaStream can save you money in the long run over buying cans/bottles of soda and sparkling water.
  • Great Taste. The “cola” and other common soda flavors taste a lot like the real thing!
  • Low Sugar! Or no sugar for the diet syrups. I feel better about letting the kids have soda if their glass has 0-9g of sugar vs. up to 54g!
  • No High Fructose Corn Syrup or Aspertame! That was a huge selling point for me as we are trying to take all HFCS products out of the house.
  • Convenience. Run out of soda before a party or houseguests? No problem! It takes only a few seconds to make more!
  • Empty Cart:

  • I have had a couple complaints from friends and relatives that the fizz doesn’t last long. We tried pumping more CO2 into the bottle, but you pretty much have to drink the liter the same day (or day after) you make it and don’t let it sit in your glass for a long time.
  • The button to push the CO2 was a bit hard for my 6 yr old to press, but the rest of it got it okay.
  • Initial cost can get pricey depending on what machine you get, but over the life of the product, it should still save you money.
  • SodaStream Products

All in all this is a great product! They are coming out with a line of all-sugar flavors, so no “fake” taste to those if you don’t care for splenda based products. You can find out more info on their site here: www.SodaStreamUSA.com
