I have a quick last minute Thanksgiving donation request for Arapahoe House’s facility called Aspen. Aspen is a drug and alcohol rehab center (and safe house) specifically for pregnant women and new mothers. In order to stay at Aspen, women must be clean (and are tested on a daily basis) and so the women there are on a path of sobriety and a more promising life for their children.
There are specific items they are in dire need of right before Thanksgiving. As part of the program, they will be inviting their families to a Thanksgiving meal that they prepare and host and I would love to help them make it a success. The items you donate do not have to be new, they can be used items that you no longer need…
The items they need most are:
- measuring cups and measuring spoons - pots and pans- spatulas- utensils- can opener- baby spoons and utensils- reusable water bottle - sippy cups- baby bottles - cookbooks - any other kitchen items
Other items they need are:
- maternity clothes - Pull-Ups- Baby toys/items (small and large) - Nursing pads - Pregnancy/birth books
This is a great opportunity to get your children involved with donating and helping others. They can help you go through your drawers and cupboards and decide what is being used in your home and what might be more helpful to someone else – especially some of their old baby items. It opens up all sorts of conversation about giving, reusing, gratefulness and community service. With the toy-heavy holidays around the corner, it’s a nice way to start the dialogue about giving and receiving. And if you have nothing to let go of, but still want to participate, you could head to the Dollar store and let your child help you pick out a few items.
You can drop the stuff at my house this weekend or I can come and get it from you. Please help if you can.
