Do you throw parties? For kids? That aren't birthday related?
I don't.
But I am on Saturday. And I'm finding out I'm a bit clueless. I know I should have kept it more simple, but then I had a great idea. And that great idea led to another and another. So, now I've been tediously cutting fringe onto streamers (what?) And making props for the photo booth and cooking, baking, cleaning, regular mom stuff, etc. And then it dawned on me.....I'm not crafty. I don't enjoy being crafty. I'd rather buy stuff from the dollar store. hahaha
In all honesty it hasn't been that bad. But it never ceases to amaze me how long these great ideas take to actually make. I do this to myself often....you'd think I'd learn by now.
Any party throwing advice? Things I should remember to do/make/decorate? I'm a newbie to the kid party scene...and who knows...maybe it'll turn out fun.

No. Have never thrown a party for kids for anything other than their bdays. But have at certain points in time late at night after a couple of glasses of wine....possibly thought...that would be fun! :goodluck

Is it just for your boys? Did you invite other kids?

I think it sounds like fun! I also loved your little banner! I need some of those in the window at the shop!

The banners are SUPER easy to make! I just used cardstock and ribbon.
I've invited a few friends and their kids to come party with us. Parties are more fun with friends! The party isn't the stressor...it's the last minute party planning on top of regular life.
I just made my list of priorities for the day and honestly....we're in good shape.

I am having a kids/adult party this saturday too. We did it last year. Just don't worry so much on the food for the kids. They will usually just eat chips even if you go to a lot of trouble to make kid friendly food just for them.
I got a little disco ball and they will have a dance party. probably pay wii rock band.
I usually have Easter and Halloween parties for the kids too. It has ranged in size from 5 kids to 19 kids at a time. They seem to always have fun and their parents tell me after the kids leave they are already asking if we are having another one next year.

Food wise I'm making chicken taquitos, coconut chicken fingers, pizza bites, sweet and sour meatballs, chips and salsa, fruit tray, veggie tray, cookies, pretzel turtles, muddy buddies (maybe). All kid/adult friendly food. Then punch, juice and sparkling cider for drinks. It's all easy food...at least I had that much sense. haha!

this was the biggest disappointment of 2011. I know it's been days, but I am still out of sorts about it all. I feel bad. We'll have to try this again next year.
On a side note, it sounds like the kiddos had a good time. So, it wasn't a complete waste. Thanks to everyone for pitching in and taking over when my body gave up on the day. You're the best! I suppose I'll keep you around.

BAH!!!!
We had a blast. It was fantastic and it was good to see you. Thank you for letting us crash your house even if you were feeling like crap. Yes the kids had a great time. DO NOT beat yourself up about it. If you do, I'll just have to personally swing by and BEAT YOU!!

I know my kids had a good time, I know Lizzys seemed to have fun, I believe yours did, I think A's did, but I've been guilt stricken since that day, you going out of your way like you did...too much. (I have mommy guilt!)
if, at any point and for any reason Lizzy gets to go over and beat you, can I come vacuum?

You may both come over as long as you promise not to beat me or vacuum. Deal? I'd really like to try the photo booth again sometime. I know some of the props didn't survive, but most of them did. Anyway...I had a lot of good ideas that just didn't happen. I'll just have to have another party.

Oh....the guilt...you have guilt? For what? Bringing ice (that we didn't even use)?, vacuuming my house. Wiping down my bathroom? Helping cleanup after? Tracing hats? Really? I'm the one that should feel bad. You were one of my life savers!
Hey, come to my party....but once you're here you'll have to prep and run the show and then clean up, too. Lol It will be awhile before I forgive myself for this one.
