Great App for Toddlers & Special Needs ~ Alien Buddies

I saw a fellow blogger post on facebook about a cool new iPhone/iPod/iPad/iWhatever app he found for his kids. Alien Buddies. I consider myself an app collector, if you will, so I downloaded it right away. Okay, so less of a collector and more of a hoarder, I have about 120 apps in itunes right now saying they have updates. Lord knows how many total I have. But I digress…

So Alien Buddies. I downloaded it and started playing with it with Brady. In his various therapies we are working on matching and drawing straight lines. The matching game in the app has 8 different modes, colors, shapes, numbers and letters and then sound versions of all of those as well.

When in the color matching the entire alien is the color of the circle on the space ship, you drag and drop him in and viola! A match. What is really great is you don’t have to be exact. Drag him just near the ship and he’ll jump right in. This makes it perfect for tiny hands. If you download it onto an ipad it makes it even easier for younger kids as the screen and aliens are a lot larger.

The app also has connect the dots scenes and a sticker page where you can create your own pictures with stickers you earn by playing the games. The graphics are super cute and appealed to my 7 year-old as well. He flew through the games to earn his little brother more stickers and helped him make pictures with them.

Since playing the game Brady has gotten a lot better with tracing straight lines with his fingers. He’s also getting a lot better at color matching. What he’s not so great at is giving me my iPhone back. Hmmmmm…

Right now the app is only $0.99 (until 12/31) so make sure you download this fast! If you have a toddler or young child with special needs, I highly recommend it!

Here is some more information about the app:

The Alien Buddies iPhone/iPad app is designed with a variety of games and play modes to suit a range of ages from Preschool to Kindergarten.

The games include:

Matching: color, shape, letter and number recognition (audio and visual modes)

Dot to Dot: sequential counting, fine motor skills

Stickers: creative free play, fine motor skills (over 40 stickers and 8 landscapes)

  26. I love this! :) Zoe plays with my iPad ALL the time, but it’s hard to find GOOD apps for her that she doesn’t quickly get bored with. My favorite feature would have to be the stickers. Stickers on the iPad and NOT on my wall? Oh, yeah! lol As far as a feature that would be my favorite for how it could benefit my kids, I’d probably go with the matching… but it’s a hard choice because they’re all great!

  27. I love that the matching by numbers is not just your typical 1-10 you can also do 1-20 or 1-50 which is awesome considering I have a 3yr old, 5 yr old & 8 yr old who would probably love this game and each kid could do it with the numbers they’re comfortable with.
