Old School Atari Made New! {plus a #giveaway!}

I’m about to show my age. I was an atari FANATIC as a kid. Pitfall was MY JAM! I even found a pitfall t shirt at Target earlier in the year and may have shrieked and embarrassed my kids. may have. It was a no brainer when I was asked if I wanted to review the new Duo powered Atari Arcade for the iPad.

Remember these? Oh yeah, I could kick my mom’s booty at pitfall! (At least that’s how I remember it.)

When I showed my kids pictures of what gaming used to be like, they blinked at me. Then I told them how if the game didn’t work, you would take out the cartridge and blow on it, then put it back in. MAGIC! They blinked again. Then I said, well, Duo sent us an atari system for the iPad and then they decided to care what I was talking about.

We downloaded the app, hooked up the iPad and the fun began.

Some of the games that come with the app are free, then you can purchase a few more for around $5 and all of them for only $10. Because the holidays are just around the corner, I told them to enjoy the free games and wait until they get an itunes card for Christmas to download the rest. ;) Love the system, the app and the games, but thought more of the games should be included when you purchase a $50-$60 device.

Thomas, being the gamer that he is, proceeded to beat every game, scoring high scores no one can touch and brushed his shoulder and dropped his mic. Okay, so the last two didn’t happen, but if he were on a TV show, it would have! He was that good.

Carter was off for winter break a couple of days before the others so he got to play it the most when the boys were at school. He told me to wake him up early so he can try to beat Thomas’ scores on Asteroids. I woke him at 7 as instructed and then found this by 10am.

Asleep at the Atari

I couldn’t resist snapping a pic as he slept next to my desk. Every once in a while, in his sleep, he’d still click a button. I was giggling the entire nap.

So now I bet you are saying to yourself, “Emily! You always give away toys and games, can I have one too?!” And the answer is YES!

Frogger! Actually it was my kids because I am older, but my grandkids would have loved it, too!

Hahaha! Kid’s don’t know how good they have it now! I looooved Atari and this brought me waaaay back. I too loved Pitfall and remember it vividly. How awesome they are bringing it back so I can share this with my daughters. “See what Mommy used to play when she was your age…” ;)

Basically all. I miss that game. I cannot play the 3D games that well. I remember beating and getting high score on some. Ping Pong was my favorite, hitting all those blocks to music.

PacMan. I remember fondly getting that game and my dad and me sitting in front of the game for hours. It was extra cool because my dad was a farmer and you just didn’t expect him to do it.

My favorite was Burger Time. I actually played it so long once at Chuck E Cheese that I peed my pants. No lie!

Battle Tank. I can’t remember the name exactly. A friend of mine got an Atari for Christmas somewhere in the mid-70s and about every game Atari had. We spent hours playing those games! The tank game would go off-screen and then come back on the other side. It was either impossibly easy or really difficult to play.

I loved Donkey Kong, but my absolute fave came later toward the end of our Atari’s life. It was called Q-Bert. It was ridiculous fun!

I wouldn’t say it was my favorite but I remember playing one called plaque attack…you were toothpaste shooting at food before it hit the teeth and ate them. I also was a big Donkey Kong player.

I loved Atari! So much so that when I came across an old system at a garage sale when my kids were little I bought it. They loved it too and I enjoyed showing them the games we played! I rocked Donkey Kong and Pac Man!

I have been trying to find an original atari console because a friend in NC game me a game cartridge. My very favorite game which is odd because its Pitfall and here you have pitfall showing here ;) I rocked in pitfall.

I didn’t have a favorite since I’ve never played, so this will be a new fun experience for all of us if I win. My son would love it for sure! makeighleekyleigh at yahoo.com
