[Recipe] Holiday Gingerbread

Nothing makes the house smell like fall and the Holidays like gingerbread! Gingerbread cookies always take the stage, but this year, try gingerbread in its best form… a loaf! This bread is sweet, spicy and will make you want to cozy up by the fire.

Recipe: Gingerbread

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
    2 tsp baking soda
    1 tsp cinnamon
    1 tsp ginger
1 teaspoon mixed spice (I sometimes use pumpkin pie spice)
    1 tsp cocoa
    1 cup milk
    1/2 cup light molasses
    1/2 cup sugar
    1/2 cup butter (or margarine)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350. Mix dry ingredients (minus the sugar) in a large bowl. In a small saucepan, warm the milk, molasses, sugar and butter, stirring frequently. Do not boil. Cool and add dry ingredients. Stir until blended but try not to over stir. Pour into a greased and floured 5×9 loaf pan. Bake for 40 min or until toothpick comes out clean.
