A Retro Holiday at the 1940s White Christmas Ball

Last weekend I stepped back in time to celebrate Christmas 1940s style.

We got all dolled up and headed to the 1940s White Christmas Ball, where we kicked off the holiday with singing and tap dancing troupe The Satin Dollz, and appearances by Elvis, Judy Garland, and Frank Sinatra.

And because White Christmas is one of my favorite Christmas movies ever, I especially appreciated the special performance by The Haynes Sisters.

There were rations from cigarette girls, military re-enactors, and swing dancing until the wee hours. And, of course, there were beautiful Christmas decorations and people celebrating the season.

I think my favorite part of the 1940s balls is the respect everyone shows the veterans who attend these evenings. It’s a small way to show how much we owe them, and I love that at each of these events, everyone takes time to honor them for their service.

All in all, the 1940s White Christmas Ball was a great way to get into the holiday spirit and kick off the season.
