YBike Pewi – Special Needs Review

The YBike isn’t just for special needs kids, it helps many kids learn balance and control. I reviewed this with Chewy and a special needs eye because of his past issues with the vestibular system and balance. While he was afraid of the bike at first, after using it for 5-10 min a day he will tolerate it a great deal better now. He doesn’t like to feel a loss of control and with the wheels able to move the bike in any direction, it took a bit to get used to.

yBike Pewi Special Needs ReviewNot only does he ride on the bike, but he likes to push it around. Not one of the normal uses, in fact it is warned not to use this as a “walker” but the fact it glides so fast and easy across our wood floors really is helping him learn to run! This bike is a great tool in our therapies as it’s helping so many different areas all at once.

If your special needs child needs help with his vestibular system, with balance, control and even walking/running, the yBike Pewi is a great tool for you! At only $60, it’s a relatively affordable one as well. It’s age group says 18 – 36 months, but as long as your child is less than 44lbs, I think the age piece can be ignored a bit, especially if you plan to use this as a therapy tool.

Kids not on the spectrum can also enjoy this toy. With bright colors and smiling face for a handle, kids are drawn to this unique bike! I’ve had quite a few adults drawn to it as well, asking all about it. I truly think this bike could be the “next hot thing” for little ones!

From their site:

yBike Pewi
Pewi is a new innovative “Walking Buddy/Ride-on for the toddler market”. Beginning as young as 9 months Pewi is the coolest, sleekest walker around. However, unlike traditional Walkers on the market where the child is typically sitting in the walker the Pewi actually enhances body and space awareness. In a traditional walker a child does not learn to fall as he or she typically just sits or hangs in the unit. With the Pewi the Child stands freely in front of Pewi using it only as an aid. They can easily let go of Pewi and sit on the ground or knock other items themselves. This freedom of movement at a young age has proven to stimulate body in space awareness a key for balance and motor skill development.

Pewi is also an innovative fun foot to floor ride-on for children ages 12 36 months with a maximum load of 44 lbs. The multi direction caster wheels allow a child to ride and easily control the Pewi in any direction. Ideal use for indoor and outdoor play on smooth surfaces. Non marking rubber wheels will not damage or mark floors. Comes in 3 vibrant colors Red, Pink, Blue. Ideal for early stage balance and motor skill development and is the perfect prelude to the innovative YBIKE range of balance bikes.

Recommended age 12-36 months
Max height of child = 110cm. Max weight = 44 lbs
