Last month was almost as crazy as this month has been for vacations, work travel, kid activities, family visits and more. We were spending a week at Disneyland and the weekend before we left, the Westin Denver Downtown asked if we’d like to stay as part of their Westin Family Weekends. It was the perfect way to kickoff a long vacation with a little staycation and exploring downtown!
Upon arrival to the beautiful hotel, we were greeted with a fun lunch with healthy and local food options. We were given our room keys and that’s when the wonder started! Brady was ecstatic to open our room door to see a mini teepee in the room just for him! He has a couple of teepee like play structures in our home, one in his room! With his autism he can get overwhelmed and likes a quiet place to hide or be calm and this teepee in our room provided him just that!
More wonder awaited us as we got to explore downtown. The hotel had arranged for us to spend the afternoon at the Denver Downtown Aquarium. My kids are no strangers to the aquarium but hadn’t been in a while so they were thrilled to see the various fish, stingrays, sharks and even got to meet a mermaid! It was a short and fun scenic walk, or a very quick car/taxi/uber ride from the hotel so the location was perfect. There were other things like the Colorado History Museum, Denver Public Library and Denver Art Museum close by as well.
That evening my husband and I had a date night at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, which again was just a quick walk from the hotel. We enjoyed a play while the boys were with their grandparents and we all met back at the hotel to sleep. The beds were so comfy we were all asleep quickly and the hotel was so quiet.
The next day the boys and I spent the morning checking out the pool and the amazing water fountain located in front of the hotel. You could walk all around it and even through it! They had lawn games set up like cornhole, a giant Connect Four game, putt putt and more. When it was time to check out, my husband took our middle boy to a Rockies game while Brady and I went home to pack for our trip the next day.
It was such a fun weekend and we got to do things as a family and have individual time with each kid as well as have a date night for ourselves. It was the perfect mini staycation right in the heart of Downtown Denver.
With the Westin Family Weekends, kids twelve and under eat free (with a paid adult meal) at Augusta, the delicious restaurant located within the Westin Denver Downtown Hotel. They also will give you a 25% discount on a second room, if needed, and will do everything to try to make those rooms connecting. There are fun scavenger hunt/travel journal style books for the kids to fill out as well, making the stay even more memorable.
Whether it’s a staycation or a vacation, families can rest easy at the Westin Denver Downtown Hotel. To find out more about the property and to book your room, visit their website at Westin.com.
